Upgrade Works
Arthurs Seat Eagle is proposing an upgrade of its existing attractions to provide an enhanced offering for visitors.
This upgrade is required to maintain our position as one of the Mornington Peninsula’s most popular destinations and to celebrate the natural wonders of the area.
Our vision is to expand on the experiences that visitors can enjoy when visiting Arthurs Seat Eagle, making it more inclusive, accessible and environmentally-conscious.
In collaboration with Parks Victoria, the State Government, and several expert consultants in world-class placemaking, Arthurs Seat Eagle has developed a master plan vision that it has submitted for approval by the State Government.
Our proposal prioritises environmental sustainability, safety, accessibility, and the visitor experience within a highly design-driven and community conscious site-response.
A community survey undertaken prior to this submission also provided valuable community input into elements of the proposed upgrade.
The proposal broadly includes the following components which are to be delivered on a staged basis over the coming years :
Stage 1: Base Station Upgrade
The first stage involves upgrading and expanding the existing Base Station to include an interpretive and experience centre. This state-of-the-art centre will immerse visitors in a sensory experience, providing educational opportunities related to the coastal context and history of the Mornington Peninsula. Visitors will be able to feel the atmosphere of the Peninsula, from historical sand dune topography to the waves on the foreshore. The expansion is partly subterranean and will replace the existing Base Station forecourt.
Stage 2: Luge Ride Development
The second stage features the development of a luge ride between the Base and Summit Stations. The proposed track system will include an arrival and departure platform located beneath the Summit Station on a closed loop. The track is designed to utilise the natural slope of the land, offering an exhilarating experience while minimising environmental impact. The track will be built in an area that is already clear of vegetation and will use environmentally sensitive fixings to preserve the native landscape, and is part of our long-term strategy to reduce erosion and revegetate the lift line.
Stage 3: Summit Station Upgrade
The final stage involves upgrading and expanding the existing Summit Station to support an improved hospitality offering a luge ride and new observation tower, consistent with the historic use of the site. With safety in mind, we are proposing to construct a sky bridge across Arthurs Seat Road to provide an improved pedestrian crossing for visitors. The observation tower will be nestled among the tree canopy, offering 360 degree scenic views of the landscape and foreshore while minimising visual impact.
Delivery of all three projects is estimated to generate a total of $45.4 million in economic activity, creating approximately 250 jobs.
We look forward to bringing you even more opportunities to experience the wonders of the Mornington Peninsula, and contributing to the growth and sustainability of our region’s tourism offer.
