EXCURSIONS

The Package

Our Education Packages cost $15 per student, with accompanying teachers and supervising adults attending free of charge.

For this price students receive:

– Return ride on the Eagle – Schools Risk Assessment
– Guided Presentation (at the Base Station) by a trained staff member
– Student Booklet
– Learning Resources
– ‘I Soared Like an Eagle’ sticker
– Gondola activity to take back to school

The Arthurs Seat Eagle offers a unique, multi-site environment where teachers and students are invited to immerse themselves in place-based learning. Our unique location enables us to provide meaningful learning experiences connecting students through history to place. Our program is designed to help primary school students of all ages engage with the beauty and diversity of the area while fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of core curriculum skills.

Our memorable excursions encompass the Geography, Science and History subject areas of the Victorian Curriculum.

The Program

Each Eagle Education Program is divided up by grade to correspond with National Curriculum divisions, and each lesson is specifically targeted to cater to curriculum descriptors in the areas of Geography, History and Science.

Eagle Explorers (Years F - 2)

Our Eagle Explorers Program is designed for Foundation to Grade 2 and aligns with key curriculum areas in geography, history, and science. The program offers a hands-on, engaging learning experience.

Geography Students will:
– Identify and describe local features and their changes (VCGGC057).
– Explain the location of places and activities (VCGGC058).
– Create tables, plans, and labeled maps (VCGGC061).
– Interpret data to describe directions and locations (VCGGC062).
 
History Students will:
– Explore the history of significant local people, sites, and natural environments (VCHHK063).
– Examine the impact of changing technology on lives (VCHHK065).
 
Science Students will:
– Observe changes in the sky and landscape, understanding daily and seasonal impacts (VCSSU046).
– Learn how size and shape affect object movement (VCSSU048).
 
Total estimated time onsite is 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Eagle-Eyed Investigators (Years 3 & 4)

Our Eagle-Eyed Investigators Program is designed for Grades 3 and 4, aligning with key curriculum areas in geography, history, and science. This program offers an engaging and educational experience.
Geography Students will:
– Create tables and graphs to show patterns in data (VCGGC075).
– Describe the location of features by distance and compass direction (VCGGC076).
– Discuss different views on development in national parks (VCGGK082).
– Design actions to protect and improve local places, considering different perspectives (VCGGK083).
 
History Students will:
– Link key events and people’s experiences to form narratives about the past (VCHHC066).
– Create charts, pictorial stories, maps, and presentations to explain the past (VCHHC068).
– Investigate changes and continuity in transport, work, education, and daily life (VCHHK073).
 
Science Students will:
– Explore how science helps resolve issues related to human activities, like bushland clearing and waste management (VCSSU056).
– Investigate the effect of forces on objects through actions like throwing, dropping, and bouncing (VCSSU064).
 
Total estimated time onsite is 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Eagle Engineers (Years 5 & 6)

Our Eagle Engineers Program is designed for Grades 5 and 6, aligning with key curriculum areas in geography, history, and science. This program offers an engaging and educational experience.
Geography Students will:
-Examine how land use, such as national parks and reserves, influences space (VCGGK096).
-Create maps for specific purposes, like flow maps showing connections or bushfire management plans (VCGGC089).
-Create small-scale maps to show connections between places (VCGGC089).
 
History Students will:
-Place key events, ideas, movements, and people of the twentieth century in chronological sequence (VCHHC082).
-Create visual, oral, or written journals reflecting daily life in convict or colonial settlements (VCHHC085).
-Investigate the impact of settlement on the environment, comparing past and present landscapes (VCHHK089).
 
Science Students will:
-Design shelters for living things exposed to harsh environments, such as post-bushfire conditions (VCSSU073).
-Research how prevention, mitigation, and preparedness minimise the harmful effects of bushfires or flooding (VCGGK121).
 
Total estimated time onsite is 2 hours and 15 minutes.

The Excursion

The excursion runs as a half day excursion as follows:

Session Type Description Estimated session length
Arrive by bus at the Summit Station
Eagle Educator-Led Session Greeting and Introduction by Eagle Educator. We set the scene for the excursion and learn what to look out for on our first flight. 15 minutes
Teacher/Supervising Adult Led Session 1st Ride - Ride from Summit to Base. Teachers and supervising adults are provided with sheet of guided discussion points for students. Children may see our own Wedgie the Eagle riding past on a gondola - don't forget to wave! Ratios in our gondolas are 1-7. 15 minutes
Snack/toilet break 30 minutes
Eagle Educator Led- Session Students are treated to a guided tour of the Base Station - the driving force of the cable way system. Our audiovisual presentation, activities and discussion all take place within the hangar where the gondolas are 'put to bed' each night. Our immersive audiovisual presentation takes students on a journey from the earliest history of the mountain, through today. Our engaging educator will guide students to find all the clues they need to complete their research booklets, before we roll up our sleeves for a hands-on activity. 45 minutes
Teacher/Supervising Adult Led Session 2nd Ride - Ride from Base to Summit. 15 minutes
Teacher/Supervising Adult Led Session Self-guided visit Arthurs Seat and Arthurs Seat look out. 15 minutes
Teacher/Supervising Adult Led Session Option to walk to Seawinds - picnic lunch and self-guided activities in Seawinds. As long as you like!
